Histoire
Comté de Bonaventure. Diocèse de Gaspé. Un curé y réside dans cette paroisse depuis 1898, date de l’ouverture des registres de la paroisse. Érection canonique: 6 mars 1899. Érection civile: 3 août 1900. Le territoire de cette paroisse comprend la partie est du canton de Port-Daniel. Voir Gazette Officielle de 1900, page 1576. La municipalité de la paroisse de Sainte-Germaine-de-l’Anse-aux-Gascons a été érigée en vertu du Code municipal, le 22 mars 1901. Voir Gazette Officielle de 1901, page 1258. Le village est situé sur le parcours du chemin de fer «Atlantic, Quebec and Western». Le nom de la station est «Gascons». M. P.G. Roy donne l’origine suivante du nom de l’Anse-aux-Gascons: «Un vaisseau ayant fait naufrage sur les côtes de Percé, un matelot gascon parvint à se maintenir sur une épave sur laquelle il s’était cramponné et fut déposé sain et sauf jusqu’à l’anse qui porte son nom. Il s’y établit et y mourut à un âge fort avancé.» On devrait donc écrire ce nom au singulier. Sainte Germaine était originaire de la Gascogne; c’est pourquoi la paroisse fut mise sous son patronage.
